data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"p1\">The<b> Glasgow Working Group on Women and Offending<\/b> (GWGWO) was established by the Glasgow Community Justice Authority (CJA) in response to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webarchive.org.uk\/wayback\/archive\/3000\/https:\/www.gov.scot\/Resource\/0039\/00391828.pdf\"><span class=\"s1\">Commission on Women Offenders<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/a> and its 39 recommendations published in 2012. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/asp\/2016\/10\"><b>Following the implementation of the Community Justice (Scotland) Act 2016<\/b><\/a><\/span>, which disbanded CJAs and established <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowcpp.org.uk\/communityjustice\"><span class=\"s1\">Community Justice Glasgow<\/span><\/a> (CJG), members of the GWGWO overwhelmingly supported the continuation of this group, and so it continues today with a wide range of both local and national members, including justice specific and universal services which can support women involved in offending or in the criminal justice system.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Links to national working groups including the <a href=\"https:\/\/swgwo.wordpress.com\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Scottish Working Group on Women\u2019s Offending<\/span><\/a> and the Scottish Parliament <a href=\"https:\/\/archive2021.parliament.scot\/msps\/womens-justice.aspx\"><span class=\"s1\">Cross Party Group on Women\u2019s Justice<\/span><\/a> have strengthened the group, and ensures information and views flow between.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\"><b>Over the last year<\/b>, the GWGWO has also acted as a useful sharing and learning network for services in Glasgow.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>We have had many new members coming on board and informing the group of the services they can provide and making essential connections to ensure effective partnership working, ultimately helping to provide more holistic services and pathways for women. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\"><b>During 2020 the group also increased its meeting frequency<\/b>, while face to face meetings were no longer possible this ensured that everyone was kept informed and up to date with what was happening across members\u2019 services throughout lockdown. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\"><b>Ensuring this connection also aided better partnership working<\/b> when needed, such as when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/news\/short-term-prisoners-considered-for-early-release\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Emergency Early Release<\/span><\/a> (you can read more about Glasgow\u2019s response to this in the article <a href=\"http:\/\/2021.cjg-annualreport.co.uk\/?p=7069\"><b><i>Improving Prison Throughcare \u2013 Pathfinder to Housing, health &amp; Benefits (PHHaB))<\/i><\/b><\/a><b><i> <\/i><\/b><i>\u2013 <\/i>from prison was implemented.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Partners were able to work together and share essential information to ensure women who were leaving prison had all the information they needed and the best opportunities to link with services while the usual face to face meeting was not possible. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\"><b>As the membership has continued to evolve and expand<\/b>, so too has the role and remit of the group, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sps.gov.uk\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Scottish Prison Service<\/span><\/a> (SPS) locating one of the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sps.gov.uk\/Corporate\/News\/News-5137.aspx\"><span class=\"s1\">Women\u2019s Community Custody Units<\/span><\/a> in Glasgow, the group has become a reference group for SPS, who have consulted with the group on developments and have used this as a route to keeping local services informed and involved in progress and design of the unit. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\"><b>The working group has representation<\/b> on the Strategic Interface Group who are progressing both the health and social care elements of women in Glasgow within the CCU.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>The GWGWO hopes that in line with the Programme for Government and the focus on women in prison and remand that we will continue to play a vital and
